Finding a "Happy Weight"

Self has this quiz that helps you find your "happy weight". It takes into account your height, frame, obesity in the family, age, smoker status, exercise habits and if you indulge. For an explanation on why they look at these check this article out.

This is how you figure out your frame size:

Wrap a tape measure around your wrist and use this chart to determine your frame size.

If you're under 5'2"If you're 5'2" to 5'5"If you're over 5'5"
Small frameLess than 5.5"Less than 6"Less than 6.25"
Medium frame5.5" to 5.75"6" to 6.25"6.25" to 6.5"
Large frameMore than 5.75"More than 6.25"More than 6.5"

So I'm in the medium frame and my happy weight is...not where I'm at now.

To be honest this is probably right around where I look my best and I am healthy (working out, eating right, etc). I haven't been under 125 lbs since I was a freshman in high school and it really is too skinny for me in terms of how I'm built and my body type. I have a lot of work to get back to my healthy weight and work stress and my general blah feeling is NOT helping things.

Whats your "healthy weight"? Do you think its reasonable?

PS - this isn't for use with women that are prego :)

  1. my happy weight says i need to lose weight. :( but i actually do think this is pretty reasonable and attainable for me. just need to get back into good eating habits and working out on a regular basis. and not eating so much chocolate. sigh. if i do all that, i may not be as happy.

  2. @pita - sigh me too. I need to move from once a week workout to three times a week...

  3. Wow I never knew I was a "large" frame. I knew my bone structure is thicker than most of my friends who are similar heights, but I never really took this into consideration.

I'm not sure how accurate it is, because when I was at my fittest (and I was by no means underweight, just healthy, exercising regularly, and eating well) I was 10 lbs BELOW my "happy weight." And when I was at my "happy weight" I was not excercising, eating junk, and smoked like crazy.

    I guess everyone's different?

  4. According to this... my "happy weight" is about 13 lbs. over my personal happy weight. But it's interesting to see the different calculations for different size frames, almost a 10 lb difference!

  5. Funny -- I've been feeling quite chunky recently (just dropped a few pounds, though, so feeling a little better), yet the number on my scale this morning matches my "happy weight" number. I guess that's good... but it's also a sign that I need to be way less "soft" even if I do maintain this weight, because I still have lots o' jiggle! I guess toning and smoothing should be my goal.
